The Opposition AIADMK has urged the government to ensure that 85 % of seats were reserved for students from Puducherry based on their marks in the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical and dental colleges here.
Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, AIADMK Legislature Party leader A. Anbalagan said the Puducherry government should emulate the pattern followed by Tamil Nadu earmarking 85% of seats so that students from poor and rural backgrounds are benefited.
NEET was conducted on the basis of CBSE. But, students from the Puducherry and Karaikal regions could not score marks on a par with CBSE students.
Mr. Anbalagan also wanted the government to take immediate steps in advance to get 50% of the total seats in government quota in private medical colleges in the current academic year.
The fees should also be fixed in advance.
The Puducherry government should also hold discussions with the Tamil Nadu government for easy availability of sand from the neighbouring State because an acute shortage had hit the construction activities here, he said.
