An empty bogie of the stationery Villupuram-Katpadi Fast Passenger was gutted at the Villupuram railway junction here in the early hours of Thursday. However, no casualty or injuries were reported.
According to Railway sources, the train was halting for the night at platform number 3 in the railway junction.
The train was scheduled to depart at around 4.50 a.m.
The compartments were cleaned and locked. At around 12.30 a.m., the fire was noticed in the seventh bogie of the train. Railway personnel immediately alerted the Fire and Rescue Services Department.
A team led by District Fire Officer S. Ganesan rushed to the spot and put out the fire. But it too late

The compartment was detached from the rake and the train departed at 4.50 a.m.
Senior officials from the Tiruchi Railway Division rushed to the spot to carry out investigations. The Railway police are investigating the cause of fire.
Divisional Railway Manager Udayakumar Reddy told presspersons that a probe had been ordered to ascertain the damages and exact reason behind the fire incident.
The Railways did not have funds to install Closed Circuit Television Cameras in all major stations and it was dependent on the State government for the same, he said.
