E-governance: Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy launches the ‘e-District Go Live’ in Puducherry on Thursday.

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy launched the e-District Services in Puducherry on Thursday at the “e-District Go Live” programme organised by the Directorate of Information Technology.

Stating that nearly 72 government services will be available through online portal, the Chief Minister said that through this initiative people can obtain certificates from their residence or common service centres (CSC).

“This will be a time-bound delivery service and action will be taken against officers who is fail to provide the services within the stipulated time. This is an effective service to curb corruption,” he said. He added that all the government services would reach the public through e-district services within three months.

M.O.H.F. Shahjahan, Minister for Revenue-cum-IT, said this initiative would pave the way for a fast and transparent service. “Every service has a timeline for delivery and the citizens will get an acknowledgement of receipt and approval of application along with status of processing of application through SMS,” he added.

The e-District Services aim at providing various government-issued certificates to Puducherry residents through online.

This initiative made Puducherry join the select few states or union territories to allow online applications, online status verification, and digitising the entire legacy data related to such services.

“This initiative catapults Puducherry’s position from being the last in the list of States and union territories in providing the government services through online to the 10th rank,” added D. Manikandan, Secretary to Government – IT.

The Puducherry e-District services launched under the aegis of the Directorate of Information Technology, Government of Puducherry, will be implemented by Puducherry e-Governance Society.

The 72 citizen-centric services had been made electronically available through the State portal.

The services such as income certificate, residence or nativity certificate, caste or community certificate among others will be available at the common service centres (CSC).

Mr. Manikandan added that the project would cover 11 departments at present and other departments would be covered in due course of time.

Manoj Parida, Chief Secretary, said the tendency of powerful officers to harass people could be rid only through computers. “There will be less interaction between common citizens and powerful officers. This initiative will bid farewell to corruption,” he said.

G. Narendra Kumar, Development Commissioner-cum-Secretary, and A.S. Sivakumar, Director, Directorate of Information Technology, were present.

E-District is a Mission Mode Project (MMP) under the flagship Digital India programme.
