A native of Puducherry R. Vaithinathan has secured 37th rank in UPSC examination in India and is ranked second in Tamil Nadu.

The 30-year-old doctor hails from Madukkarai in Puducherry. He completed his schooling from Baba Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Cuddalore and pursued medicine at Vinayaka Mission Medical College in Karaikal. He has been practising medicine in a private clinic in Chennai for the past three years.

“I did not take up any permanent job in order to clear the IAS examination. I have attempted thrice. Every time I get an interview call, I quit my job. Likewise, I quit the practice before going for the interview last year,” he said.

His father is an advocate in Cuddalore. He takes inspiration from his elder sister Ponni, an IPS officer, who is currently the SP of Thiruvannamalai.
