Bedi holds conference call with secretaries, heads of departments

Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi held a conference call with Secretaries to Government and heads of departments at the Raj Nivas here on Friday. According to a press note from the Raj Nivas, Ms. Bedi asked the officers to improve inter-department and intra-department communication.

Some of the key decisions taken at the meeting as identified by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Puducherry were to make Puducherry a fully organic agriculture territory; to study the Somnath temple model for beach restoration; holding of panchayat elections at the earliest, declare Puducherry as Open Defecation Free at the earliest; involvement of youth for river regeneration; timely implementation of Centrally-sponsored schemes and use of Lok Adalat to the maximum extent.

Ms. Bedi also pointed out that the status of pendency of petitions in each department will be circulated in the public domain from April 1.

Each department should publish its own training calendar and the subject of the month should be widely disseminated.

‘Curb expenditure’

The Lt. Governor has also directed that the budget should be re-visited and unproductive expenditure should be curbed. The allocation for rural development will also be prioritised and grants will be sanctioned for societies after duly ensuring that they are functioning as per norms.

Ms. Bedi also asked the departments to publicise the list of files disposed of at the Department/Secretariat level. The direction of the Department of Administrative and Public Reforms on appointments made otherwise than through proper channel should be followed in letter and spirit.
