The Cuddalore District Police announced a WhatsApp number 9087300100 for locals to send in their complaints and grievances.

An official at the Special Branch in the District Police Office will analyse the nature of complaints received and take action.

Superintendent of Police P. Saravanan launched the WhatsApp number here on Thursday.

According to a police official, locals can provide details about crime, traffic accidents or any other anti-social activities on the WhatsApp number.

The number will be directly connected to the office of the Superintendent of Police.

Identity withheld

Complaints can be made by a text message, photo or video clippings. The name of the complainants will be kept confidential.

The idea is to prevent crime, he said. The team at the Special Branch in the DPO will review all the incoming messages and ensure prompt action on complaints reported with evidence. However, complaints on personal disputes will not be entertained.

The number will be displayed at 56 important places in the district, the official said.
