The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has called for a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the admission of students under the NRI quota to the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Research Institute (IGGMCRI), Kadirkamam.

In a statement, State unit secretary V. Perumal said the irregularities came to light after four persons – Elango of Kurinchipadi, Anwar Raza of Ramanathapuram, Rajendran of Tiruchi and Santha of Seerkazhi – complained to the Tamil Nadu Police that they were cheated by a person from Puducherry who collected a huge sum of money promising to get them a seat in the college.

The Tamil Nadu Police interrogated the official and the staff of the IGGMCRI.

Mr. Perumal said, of the total 150 seats, 105 were allocated to students of Puducherry, 23 seats are for the Central pool and the remaining 22 seats to NRIs.

He also alleged that the continuance of CENTAC convener in the post for a fourth term was in violation of the rules.

He urged the government to order a CBI probe and ensure transparency in admission process.
