Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Monday said political developments in Karnataka would pave the way for consolidation of all secular forces before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Addressing party workers at the Pradesh Congress Committee office after paying homage to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the Chief Minister said the coming together of all the secular parties would lead to the downfall of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “The Congress would form the next government with the support of secular parties. The next parliamentary elections will see party president Rahul Gandhi becoming the Prime Minister,” he said.

Praising the leadership of Mr. Gandhi, the Chief Minister said he had all the traits of the former Prime Minister.

Slams BJP

Lashing out against the BJP, the Chief Minister said the saffron party’s lust for power was evident in Karnataka. The party was openly encouraging defection from the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) by offering a huge amount, he said. The Congress and the JD(S) MLAs should be appreciated for the principled stand they took, he said. “The developments in Karnataka are a lesson for those who try to come to power through the back door,” the Chief Minister said.

Minister for Public Works A. Namassivayam, who is PCC chief, said the BJP should explain to the public how it managed to offer such huge amounts to the Congress and the JD(S) MLAs.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister K. Lakshminarayanan said Rajiv Gandhi had laid the foundation for the growth that the country achieved in the telecommunication and information technology sectors.

The Chief Minister, Ministers and party legislators participated in a rally from the PCC office to Rajiv Gandhi Statue.

Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar administered anti-terrorism pledge to government officials at the Chief Secretariat.
