Workers of the Congress Block Committee, Mahila and Youth Congress in Yanam, an enclave of the Union Territory in Andhra Pradesh have resigned en masse protesting against what they claimed as the continuous neglect of the region by the Pradesh Congress Committee.

The members led by M.A. Sirajuddin, president of the Block Congress Committee have faxed their resignation letters from the Primary membership of the party to the PCC president A.V. Subramanian.

Mr. Sirajuddin, staunch loyalist of Yanam MLA Malladi Krishna Rao in the resignation letter claimed that the Yanam Congress unit had ensured a massive win for the party in the Assembly elections in 2006 and 2001 and Lok Sabha elections in 2004 and 2009.

Though the party unit in Yanam compensated the loss of votes for the official nominee in the entire UT the party could not retain the seat due to lack of team work .

Though we worked for strengthening the party it continued to neglect the cadres over the years. Hence, all cadre, party leaders and members in Yanam region have decided to resign voluntarily from the primary membership of the party, he said.
