All India Congress Committee in-charge for Puducherry Sanjay Dutt has lashed out at Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi for her reported statement that compensation to cyclone-affected people would be released on the basis of videographic proof of damage.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the cyclone-affected places in Karaikal on Tuesday, Mr. Dutt said the Lt. Governor had made the statement even before the cyclone had withdrawn from the coast and damage assessment was yet to commence.

‘Insult to fishermen’

The fishermen who had lost their livelihood were not like absconding businessmen Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi. These businessmen were allowed to flee under BJP rule without seeking any clarifications from them, Mr. Dutt said. Her statement was “an insult to the people of Karaikal”, he said. The livelihood of fishermen had been badly affected. It would take several days for the fishermen to get back their livelihood, he said. He visited the affected places along with Power Minister R. Kamalakannan.
