Analysing innovations in global e-health records systems and sharing of implementation of EHR (e-health) and EMR (e-medical) strategies were among the key focus areas of a two-day conference that began at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) on Friday.
The Jipmer HIMA ASIA Conference-2017, which coincides with the golden jubilee of medical record education in India, was themed,“e-Health record from birth to death globally” (One patient, one number, one record).
Opening the conference held in association with the Health Information Management Association (HIMA), S.C. Parija, Jipmer Director outlined the important objectives of the meet which included exploring changes as healthcare transits to a digital era and evolving means of communication and technology outreach to improve quality of patient care.

The conference has brought together leading professionals in healthcare industry (scientists, researchers, scholars and students) from different organisations, hospitals, universities and institutions.
Over two days, experts will discuss the challenges encountered by professionals and the solutions adopted and share knowledge to enable the emergence of new technologies in their country.
Over 30 scientific /technical innovative practical topics on health information management (HIM), information technology is presented and national and international experts will lead the sessions.
The session topics include “Future of HIM Education”, “21st century requirements for HIM professionals”, “HIM role in quality and patient safety”, “developing comprehensive medical audit system, qualitative care review” and “proper documentation of good medical record keeping an essential part of practice care, advantages of one patient, one number, one record from birth to death, ‘Development of Morbidity Coding in Indian Medical Systems viz Ayurveda, Siddha and Traditional Chinese Medicine -WHO- ICD-11’.
The conference will feature three group discussions on medical record documentation (including what makes a good record; how it is done!), discussion on electronic health records (including implementation advantages; challenges).
The concluding session features a panel discussion on important HIM issues and recommendations framed to improve further the HIM Field for better service to healthcare delivery system.
