Coast Guard launches clean-up drive

NCC volunteers, students and schoolchildren join the effort

About 300 volunteers, led by the Indian Coast Guard in Puducherry, launched a coastal clean-up drive on the Promenade Beach to mark the World Environment Day.

The drive was inaugurated by Deputy Inspector General Sanjiv Trikha, Commander, Coast Guard unit, here.

The army of volunteers included National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme members and schoolchildren.

Rid of litter

During the drive which lasted two hours, the volunteers made the beach litter-free.

A bulk of the waste removed were plastic and paper waste and bottles.

The waste was handed over to the municipality for disposal.

Students of the Bharathidasan Government College for Women took up a tree-planting drive in collaboration with Hotel Atithi to mark the occasion. The drive was aimed at making the campus greener.
