Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy and Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao on Monday met Union Minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi to press for the implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).

Mr. Narayanasamy sought restoration of 100% financial grant for the government. While the financial grant was 100%, it had been slashed to 60% from the Government of India and remaining 40% by the State government.

Later, the Chief Minister and the Health Minister called on Govind Mohan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs.

The government believes that the implementation of SSA will make the Union Territory realise the promulgation found in the Article 45 of the Constitution. The Project Approval Board of 2016-17, after an appraisal of educational indicators, had said that the enrolment in government and aided schools had been declining at the primary level for the past six years.

It said said that the Union Territory government should analyse the issue and find ways to retain children in government schools.
