Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy has directed the police and jail authorities to take stern action against people indulging in criminal activities.

Talking to reporters after holding a high-level official meeting on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said he had directed the Police Department to set up two teams headed by Superintendent of Police to initiate crackdown on criminals and drug peddlers.

The meeting was convened in the wake of two separate incidents in which two anti-social elements were killed in country bomb attacks. The Chief Minister said he had directed the jail authorities to keep a check on criminals operating from the Kalapet prison.

Stressing the need to maintain law and order, the Chief Minister said the criminal activities had to be contained at all cost.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar, Director General of Police Balaji Srivastava and Senior Superintendent of Police Rahool Alwal.
