Assuring all assistance to corporate houses bringing in investments to the Union Territory, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said his government was willing to give more concessions and tweak policies to suit the needs of investors.

Participating in a round table jointly organised by NITI Aayog, Manufacturers Association of Information Technology and Industries Department, the Chief Minister said so as to attract more investments in a bid to generate employment, the government was willing to give tax concessions.

“Employment generation is the priority for the government. Since we are an Union Territory, we have our own limitations in policy matters. Within our limitations, the government will take necessary steps to attract more investments,” he said.

Acknowledging the fact that successive governments at the Centre had failed to tap the immense potential in the hardware sector, the Chief Minister said now the country had to depend on China and Taiwan for hardware imports.

Stating that the potential in hardware sector was huge, he said the government had received several enquiries from electronic manufacturers to set up base here.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Industries M.O.H. F Shahjahan said the government was willing to accommodate any industry other than those consuming large quantity of water and creating pollution.

Listing out the advantages, he said the territory had a large workforce due to the achievements made in the education sector. There were 15 engineering colleges, a Central University and a National Institute of Technology.

Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar in his address said the biggest advantage of UT was its law and order situation. “There is no major law and order issue here. It is partly because of the peace loving culture of the people and also the administrative decisions,” he said.

Employment was the critical area for any government. With scope for employment generation in agriculture sector being limited, the governments are looking towards industry for job creation, he added. Chairman of Pondicherry, Industrial Promotion Development and Investment Corporation Limited R. Siva and Development Commissioner A. Anbarassu, Senior Consultant NITI Ayog Murali Krishna Rao and CEO, MAIT, Anwar Shirpurwala were present.
