Chief Secretary clarifies on nominated MLAs

Asks BJP leaders not to drag bureaucrats into political fights

Chief Secretary Manoj Parida has urged the BJP leaders not to “drag bureaucrats into their political fights”.

Responding to the BJP leaders’ formal complaint to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh shifting the blame for the impasse over the three nominated MLAs of the party on the Chief Secretary, Mr. Parida said that he had acted as per rules and regulations.

“The nominated MLAs appointment letter was sent by ordinary post from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. It was an order signed by MHA officer which needed only to be republished in local gazette. The publication was made within two hours of the letter reaching my table,” Mr. Parida said.

“We are civil servants who act strictly as per rules and regulations. They should not involve bureaucrats in their political fights. It is childish to believe that a move to appoint nominated MLAs would be known to bureaucrats first and politicians later,” he said.

As regards the alleged suppression of the clarification sent from the MHA on the address of the nominated MLAs, the Chief Secretary said his office had received a letter on August 21 and the same was forwarded to Speaker's office on August 23.
