Centre sanctions 3,848 houses for the economically weak

Centre to bear ₹1.50 lakh per house under the scheme

The Union Government has sanctioned 3,848 houses for the economically weaker sections in the Union Territory this fiscal with an outlay of ₹46.92 crore.

Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao told presspersons here on Friday that the Ministry of Urban Development would provide a central assistance of ₹1.50 lakh per house to be built for the benefit of urban poor under the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana. The Ministry had released the first instalment of ₹18.76 crore. The government will provide its component of ₹1.5 lakh per house as promised in the election manifesto.

Of these, 2,634 houses would be built in Puducherry followed by 771 in Karaikal, 358 in Yanam and 85 in Mahe regions this year.

The government has received 613 applications from the Scheduled Caste beneficiaries for construction of houses. The beneficiaries will be added in the second list.

Probe report

However, Mr. Rao remained tightlipped on the findings of the inquiry report submitted by the team into the dialysis related deaths in the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Research Institute.

He said Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy would hold consultations with the team and he may make an announcement.
