Centre releases ₹17 cr. to Pondicherry varsity

The Centre has sanctioned ₹17 crore out of the allocation of ₹37 crore to the Pondicherry Central University for 2017-18.

The net annual allocation for the academic year had been approved on the basis of an assessment of the capital assets for Central Universities by an expert committee constituted by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The recommendation was approved at the September 4 meeting.

According to a press note from K. Mahesh, University Assistant Registrar, ₹12 crore is allocated for the construction of various buildings — lab and lecture halls for Department of Physics, Hostels for Girls at Pondicherry University Karaikal campus, annexe building for Department of Chemistry and add-on wing for Department of Biotechnology.

An amount of ₹5 crore has been allocated for campus development, purchase of books, journals, equipment and other facilities.
