After the first two rounds of counselling for PG medical courses, Centralised Admission Committee (Centac) conducted the last phase of counselling without any glitches on Tuesday.

Centralised Admission Committee coordinator P.T. Rudra Goud said the counselling for surrendered all India quota seats in Indira Gandhi Medical College was taken up and all the three vacant seats were filled.

However, several non-clinical courses were not filled and the list of vacant seats would be published by Tuesday night.

During the mop-up counselling for government seats, nearly 19 seats in private colleges were filled and 22 left vacant.

Unfilled seats

The Centac coordinator said most of seats that were not filled were non-clinical courses. At least 4 seats in Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), 10 in Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital (SMVMC) and 2 seats in Sri Venkateswara Medical College (SVMC) were filled.

At least 6 seats in PIMS, 7 in SMVMC and 9 seats in SVMC were not taken.

He added that the mop-up counselling for management quota seats would be taken up after 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Secretary to Government (Health) V. Candavelou visited the Centac office to ensure that the counselling was held without any issues.

Counselling for all courses

The government of Puducherry mulled conducting counselling for all undergraduate and postgraduate courses through Centac. A senior government official in the Department of Higher Education said that from this academic year, Centac would conduct counselling for all the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in arts, commerce and science.

Centralised Admission Procedures for Arts and Science Courses centre was conducting the counselling for all arts and science courses in Puducherry. “This change has been initiated to provide a common platform for admissions to all the courses in higher education,” said the official.

The change would be announced shortly after the Class XII results, he added.
