CENTAC assures error-free admissions

June 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Education authorities on Friday came out with a reassurance to aspirants that the admission process to various professional courses would be kept transparent and error-free.

Education Secretary and Chairman of Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) G. Ragesh Chandra also listed out the series of steps taken to ensure that the admission of students was without blemish.

Applications received online

The CENTAC, facilitating agency for admission to government quota seats of professional courses, received 8762 applications through online system as on last day- Friday.

“The applications are under the scrutiny of CENTAC officials as well as competent committee constituted by the Revenue Secretary and District Collector to verify genuineness of caste, residence certificates issued by the Revenue Department”, said Mr. Chandra.

Rejecting demands made by some groups to form a committee of officials from Education and Health Departments to verify certificates instead of a committee of Revenue officials, the Education Secretary categorically clarified,

“Such requests cannot be entertained as the law provides for, a certificate issued by the competent authority to be cancelled or suspended only by the higher authority or by a court of law. Therefore, there is no justification in the demand of such outside committee to go into the genuineness of certificates.”

Verification of certificates

The verification of different certificates are being done by various revenue officials this year on three occasions. The Deputy Tahsildar concerned verifies the applications before the issuance of certificates.

The certificates issued by Deputy Tahsildar are being verified by the competent committee of Tahsildar and Sub-Collector at the CENTAC office.

Immediately after the publication of the merit list, the Revenue Department authorities will check the genuineness of each applicant.

Signing of affidavit

Mr. Chandra said the three-tier verification would surely ensure that no unauthorised or non-genuine certificates would get considered for admission to any professional course. It would be also mandatory this year that the selected candidate sign an affidavit in front of the CENTAC convener.
