Sleuths from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches on the premises of the Puducherry Housing Board Complex at Anna Nagar here on Saturday following complaints of “large-scale irregularities” in land purchase by the Board for developing a housing complex at Kirumambakkam.

Highly placed sources said the Board had purchased land measuring one acre at Kirumambakkam during 2009-10 for construction of a housing complex. The property’s value was less than Rs. 1 crore but it had been purchased at Rs. 5 crore more than the real value of the land.

The employees drew the attention of the Puducherry government to the irregularities in the land purchase and filed a petition in the Madras High Court.

In connection with the investigation, a team of CBI officials conducted searches at the Puducherry Housing Board Complex and various other locations. The team seized some incriminating documents and also examined employees in the complex.
