A BJP delegation has petitioned Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi to facilitate a magisterial inquiry into the recent violence in Mahe that led to two deaths.

A CPI(M) worker and an RSS affiliate were recently killed in Mahe triggering tension in nearby areas. A local BJP office and a Puducherry police vehicle were set ablaze as normal life in Kannur district and neighbouring areas was disrupted in the aftermath. A joint team of Kerala and Puducherry Police was deployed in Mahe to restore calm.

The delegation led by the BJP unit headed by V. Saminathan and representatives of Mahila Morcha met Ms. Bedi at the Raj Nivas and handed over a petition seeking her intervention in getting the Centre to order an inquiry. Ms. Bedi said she had forwarded the petition to Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar to take up the matter with the Secretary (Home).
