BJP seeks adequate lighting facilities at parking lot

May 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

The Puducherry unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the Local Administration Department to provide adequate lighting facilities at the two-wheeler parking stand in the new bus stand.

In a release, V. Saminathan, general secretary of BJP said the civic body was charging Rs.8 as fee for a day’s parking at the two-wheeler parking stand.

But absence of lighting and poorly maintained parking lot was putting a lot of hardship to motorists.

If there is heavy rain, water also stagnates in the area causing damage to the vehicles.

The municipality should immediately take action and ensure that basic facilities are provided in the parking stand, he said.

Crackdown on operators

Mr. Saminathan also urged the Local Administration Department to launch a crackdown on cable TV operators to collect tax arrears.

The department should conduct a special drive and collect the arrears and use the funds for repairing roads and damaged street lights which are within the municipal limits.
