Arakkonam Municipality officials seized one tonne of banned plastic carry bags from a shop and godown on Tahsildar Street near the bus terminus, during a surprise raid.
The house owner used the house as his shop and godown to stock banned plastic bags. Municipality sources said search operations were conducted by health officials in all zones of the city. “If shopkeepers continue to sell the banned items, they will be fined according to the provisions of the law,” he said.
