Agreement will help develop holistic ecosystem encompassing smart parking, charging infrastructure

Mahindra Electric, a part of the Mahindra Group, has signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Auroville, an experimental township in Tamil Nadu to pilot India’s first integrated sustainable mobility ecosystem for a community.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two on the occasion of the World Environment Day.

Under the aegis of the MoU, the two parties will work with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Puducherry Smart City Development Ltd. (PSCDL), Go Green BOV, Bengaluru-based electric vehicle company, and numerous initiatives within Auroville to “develop a holistic ecosystem encompassing Mahindra’s electric vehicles, smart parking systems, charging infrastructure and its software integration platform NEMO.”

The partnership aims at enabling mobility models such as ride sharing, ride hailing and, self-drive rentals.

The Town Planner, PSCDL, supported by the French Government, will play a key role in this initiative. What was envisaged was creating a unique ecosystem which would be an extension to Auroville’s several e-mobility initiatives and to encourage lifestyle choices in quiet mobility, sharing of resources and reduced carbon footprint, hop-on-hop-off shuttles.

The venture aims at developing a holistic ecosystem encompassing Mahindra’s electric vehicles, smart parking systems, charging infrastructure and its software integration platform NEMO.

Mahindra Electric, which unveiled an energy storage solution for EV ecosystem at Auroville, which will play a key role in enabling the ecosystem, including charging infrastructure, EV parking, and an EV Support Centre — putting in place an end-to-end green solution.

Common platform

Mahesh Babu, CEO, Mahindra Electric, said: “We are happy to join hands with Auroville, IISc., and other partners for India’s first initiative to develop an integrated sustainable mobility ecosystem for a community.”

Mahindra has been working for close to a decade in developing the electric eco-system in India. The evolution of a common platform integrating mobility, energy storage and charging for an entire community was an important step to ensure quick scalability in future.

“We are confident that Mahindra Electric’s NEMO will prove to be the most suitable platform to develop a sustainable mobility ecosystem for any community,” he added.

Minhaj Ameen, Coordinator, Integrated Transport Services, Auroville, said, “After two decades of experimenting with-mobility solutions for public and private transport for the community, Auroville believes that the innovation in technology and support from partners such as Mahindra Electric, IISC and Go Green will enable Auroville to start prototyping end-to-end sustainable mobility solutions which can then be replicated across other cities.”
