ATM fraud case accused held under Goondas Act

The district administration has invoked the Goondas Act against Chandruji, an expelled AIADMK functionary and one of the prime accused in the ATM fraud case. The accused, reported to be absconding for nearly 80 days, was arrested by the CB-CID police team from Chennai a month ago.

The police said considering the gravity of the case, if the accused currently lodged at the Central Prison in Kalapet was enlarged on bail, there was every possibility of him hindering the investigation and tampering with witnesses. Acting on the instructions of District Collector Abhijit Vijay Chaudhary, Superintendent of Police (CB-CID) N. Selvam ordered the detention of Chandruji under the Goondas Act.
