Ashwani Kumar takes charge as Chief Secretary

Ashwani Kumar assumed charge as the new Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Puducherry on Wednesday. Mr. Kumar, who hails from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, is an officer of the 1992 IAS batch of AGMU (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and other Union Territories) cadre.

Earlier, Mr. Kumar served as the Principal Secretary to Public Works Department in the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi before being transferred as Chief Secretary to Puducherry. He also made a courtesy call on Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi at the Raj Nivas and Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy in the Legislative Assembly later in the evening.

He took charge after his predecessor Manoj Parida relinquished office on Tuesday.

The Lt. Governor later in a message welcoming the new Chief Secretary, said: “He comes with a reputation of impeccable integrity and professional acumen.”

Mr. Kumar also attended his first Cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister.

Ministers and Government Secretaries and Lt. Governor’s Secretary G. Theva Neethi Dhas were among those who attended the meeting.
