Randomisation of polling personnel were completed, says the Collector

District Election Officer-cum-District Collector P.Jawahar on Saturday said all arrangements are in place for polling which is scheduled to be held on Monday.

Addressing reporters here, Mr. Jawahar said the randomisation of polling personnel were completed. On Sunday morning, they would be assigned the polling booths. Randomisation of micro-observers would be done on Sunday. They will report directly to the Election Observer. In view of polling, no cinema will be screened in theatres of Puducherry from Sunday evening.

Explaining the arrangement to enable differently abled persons to cast their votes, Mr. Jawahar said over 200 differently abled persons had sought assistance and vehicles would be arranged to pick them from their area to the polling booth. Student volunteers would be deployed to assist them, he said.

Booth slips were distributed to 92.3 per cent of electors in the district.

Postal ballot

The District Election Officer said over 71 per cent polling was recorded in the postal ballot so far.

Of 8,422 persons who obtained postal ballots so far, over 6,000 persons sent their ballots through post to authorities. He said the deadline to receive the postal ballot is Thursday morning.

After the model code of conduct came into effect, over Rs. 6.02 crore was seized by election authorities. Following submission of proof, Rs.4 crore were returned . Seven government servants had been suspended as they indulged in campaigning for political parties and two temporary staff were disengaged, said Mr. Jawahar.
