All welfare schemes will be implemented soon, says Rangasamy

Under fire from the Opposition for not keeping his promises, Chief Minister N.Rangasamy on Monday made a commitment that his government would soon implement all welfare schemes including free distribution of 10 kilo rice, laptops to school students and mixers and grinders to women as announced by him in election manifesto.

At a function organised by Department of Women and Child Development and Department of Social Welfare, the Chief Minister distributed enhanced amount of pension to old aged persons, widows, destitute, unmarried women and also the enhanced financial assistance to differently- abled persons.

Mr. Rangasamy said he is proud that his government has been implementing the promise of enhanced pension and financial assistance to them as announced during budget speech within a month.

He also admitted that normally the announcement made in Legislative would take several months for implementation. He also pointed out that the enhanced amount is substantially higher compared with previous years and more than what was promised.

The Chief Minister said 20,952 different-abled persons and over one lakh old age citizens would benefit from the enhanced amount. Around 7,000 persons, who gave applications recently, would be given pension from July. All benefits would be disbursed on a fixed date from this month without fail.

“We have been going all out to implement all announcements made in the Legislative Assembly. The Civil Supplies department had already floated tenders for procurement of rice meant for free distribution and the 10 kilo single boiled rice and five kilo of wheat will be distributed to all card holders within this month,” said Mr. Rangasamy.

He said free laptops would be distributed in July to all students who passed out 12{+t}{+h}standard from government schools in the current and last years and also added that the government has quicken steps so that mixers and grinders would be given to the beneficiaries in August 15.

Adding that the government has allocated adequate fund to implement welfare schemes expeditiously, the Chief Minister said his government had been taking efforts to improve all infrastructure development through financial assistance that would be obtained from the funding agencies.

Speaking at the function, Speaker V.Sabapathy likened the administration of Mr. Rangasamy to Ramalinga Swamigal popularly known as Arulprakasa Vallalar. Welfare Minister P.Rajavelu, Local Administration Minister N.G.Pannirselvam, Education Minister T.Thiagarajan and MLAs were present on the occasion.
