The one-day session of the Legislative Assembly scheduled to be held on December 14 will be keenly watched as it would be the first time that the house meets after the Supreme Court upheld the appointment of nominated legislators by the Centre. The Chief Minister had already expressed reservation on certain parts of the judgment and had decided to file a review petition in the Supreme Court.

The AIADMK had appealed to the Speaker to approach the court questioning the appointment. Against the opposition raised by the ruling party and AIADMK on the SC judgment, it would be interesting to see the conduct of the house with the presence of the three BJP members in the house.

Convocation with a twist

The 82nd Convocation of Annamalai University was held in Chidambaram in Cuddalore district recently. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit presided over the function and awarded the degrees. Normally, during a convocation, the names of the eligible candidates will be called out and the degrees will be awarded to them by the dignitaries. But in this case, the candidates were handed their degrees and medals before the Chief Guest’s address. They then queued up to take photos with him.
