‘AINRC party has lost trust of people’

May 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president A.V.Subramanian on Friday claimed that the ruling All India NR Congress had lost the trust of the people.

He also said that the party has lost the support of ruling party MLAs.

Addressing reporters here, Mr. Subramanian said the protests being resorted to by ruling party MLAs showed that they had lost hope in the Government.

No power for the

MLAs

The way the Government has been functioning, it is only the Chief Minister’s writ that runs and elected MLAs do not have any power.

The Congress leader charged that the AINRC failed to keep its promise of obtaining more funds from the Union Government and further added that the Union Territory has been lagging behind in the development front.

“Anti-democratic.” stand

On the Home Ministry notification that upheld Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung’s powers vis a vis Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in certain matters, the Congress president said such a stand by the BJP Government is “anti-democratic.”

In stating that the Lieutenant Government has ultimate power in the Union Territory the BJP was invoking the Territories Act 1963 which was enacted in haste by the Parliament. He added that the law should be amended to empower the Chief Minister who is elected by the people.
