Tamil Nadu Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration and senior All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader M.C. Sampath has said the party will win in 25 constituencies in the Union Territory (UT) if it contests alone in the 2016-Assembly polls.
Addressing a public meeting here on Monday to celebrate the party foundation day, Mr. Sampath focussed his attack primarily on the ruling All India NR Congress (AINRC) government and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy.
“Being a small State, Puducherry could be well administered. But Mr. Rangasamy is not able to administrate properly and is not able to keep his MLAs under his control,” said Mr. Sampath while calling for the regime to be thrown out.
Mr. Sampath also alleged that there was no progress in creating basic infrastructure, rural development and creating new industries.
Projecting the AIADMK as an alternative at a time when “the DMK was waning in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry,” Mr. Sampath said even if the party contested without being part of an alliance, it would win in about 25 constituencies in the UT.
Calling upon his party cadre to work for the AIADMK to come to power in 2016, he said the party formed the government in 1974 and 1977. The Congress, DMK and the AINRC governments had done nothing for the growth of the UT, he said.
