The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has flayed the Puducherry Planning Authority for its tardy enforcement of building bye-laws.
Addressing a press conference here, party leader in the Legislative Assembly A. Anbalagan said it had become a norm for retail outlets to violate building bye-laws while constructing multi-storied buildings in Puducherry.
Constructing buildings violating all rules, including non-allotment of space for open area and parking lot had become common, he said.
Citing the example of a six-storied building by a textile retail outlet in front of the New Bus Stand, he said the outlet, instead of providing 7 m as open space, left only 3 m. The PPA waited to act till the outlet completed six floors, he said.
“Now, the owners will get away by paying a small amount as fine. It is a major scam and the Lt. Governor should immediately intervene in the matter,” he said.
The AIADMK leader flayed the government for not taking any steps to present the Budget, Mr. Anbalagan added.
The State governments and Union Territories had started preparations for presenting the Budget, he said and added that the Congress government here was only concerned about the Lok Sabha elections.
