The lack of cohesion among AIADMK leaders in the Puducherry unit came to the fore on Monday in the form of two separate agitations with Deputy Legislature Party Leader A.Anbalagan and three MLAs conducting a rail roko even as Puducherry unit secretary and Legislature Party Leader P.Purushothaman was sitting on a fast near new bus stand to protest against the imprisonment of AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa.
Even as the city was limping back to normality, around 500 party cadres assembled under the leadership of Mr. Purushothaman along with former Member of Parliament M. Ramadass went on a fast near New Bus Stand until dusk. Mr. Purushothaman said the incarceration of Jayalalithaa was great injustice done to Tamils in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. He called the imprisonment as a conspiracy hatched by forces which are inimical to her.
In the meantime, AIADMK party men numbering around 500 assembled near the AIADMK party office under Mr. Anbalagan on Monday morning and took out a procession towards Puducherry railway station.
MLAs- Omsakthi Sekar, L.Periasamy and A.Baskar were others who led the rally. They blockaded the Mangalore Express in the railway station and later courted arrest.
On being released, they took out another procession towards from Uppalam towards New Old Bus Stand and joined with fast protest by Mr. Purushothaman.
Mr. Anbalagan said, “The disproportionate case against our party general secretary was foisted by DMK president M.Karunanadhi 15 years ago. We will continue our agitations until our leader is released.”
