Activists belonging to a group of fringe organisations protested near Sri Aurobindo Ashram on Wednesday demanding compensation to a worker who sustained injuries while working in a unit that belonged to Ashram.

Nearly 30 activists under the banner Alaigal Iyakkam, Tamil Tamilar Iyakkam and Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam assembled before the Ashram and attempted to break the cordon of police.

They also raised slogans against the management of Ashram and police. Later they were arrested by the police and removed from the place.

However, the management of the Ashram strongly denied the allegation that the worker Manikandan was denied compensation.

It was learnt that the management is ready to pay the settlement of compensation but he has not come forward to produce a disability certificate before the labour officer. So the management has requested the officer to determine the compensation.
