They want Puducherry to follow Tamil Nadu example

Members of the Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam and workers belonging to various political parties and Tamil outfits staged a dharna in front of the Head Post Office here on Monday demanding the release of all life convicts who have served more than 10 years in prison.

Leading the demonstration, Logu Ayappan, president of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam said the Puducherry Government should exercise its powers to ensure the early release of life convicts who were languishing in prison on the occasion of the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The party has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy and he promised to take action, he said.

The Tamil Nadu government has been releasing prisoners who completed 10 years in prison. The Puducherry government should consider releasing the convicts who had completed 10 years in the prison, he added.
