MLAs belonging to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Puducherry are undecided on whether to plump for Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam or party general secretary V.K Sasikala who are at loggerheads for retaining supremacy in the party and the Government.
An informal meeting of the four legislators held at the residence of A. Anbazhagan, MLA, on Saturday to discuss the issue remained inconclusive.
Mr. Anbazhagan told The Hindu that an appropriate decision would be taken taking into account the larger interest of the party. He said the MLAs were united and would be guided by the interest of the party. Sources in the party said the MLAs were unlikely to make their stand known till a clear picture emerged in Tamil Nadu. “The legislators in Tamil Nadu are concerned about the government while we are concerned about the party. We will go with the majority decision in Tamil Nadu,” a party legislator told The Hindu .
Meanwhile, Om Sakthi Sekar, a former party legislator who was recently expelled by Ms. Sasikala for speaking in favour of Mr. Panneerselvam, said the four MLAs should take a decision. Otherwise they would face the wrath of the public. “The cadre and public are with O. Panneerselvam. The legislators should take a decision based on popular sentiment,” he said.
Mr. Sekar said he would organise a signature campaign to gather support for the decision to convert Poes Garden residence into a memorial. He said a case should be filed against Ms. Sasikala for threatening the Governor.
