No safety for women in Tamil Nadu: Pon Radhakrishnan

Union Minister of State for Shipping and Highways Pon. Radhakrishanan on Tuesday alleged that there is no safety for women in Tamil Nadu.

Brutal murder

Addressing reporters on the sidelines of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Puducherry unit’s executive committee meeting, Mr. Radhakrishnan referred to the murder of the techie Swathi in Nungambakkam and said, “The brutal murder has anguished all. Though the railway station is under the purview of the Central government, the surrounding areas come under the control of the State government. Hence, the responsibility of controlling criminal activities lies with State government. The State government should provide safe environment to women.”

‘Arrest the culprit’

He also urged the State government to expedite the investigation and arrest the culprit in the case. Mr. Radhakrishnan said the police should duly address complaints given by women besides protecting confidentiality of the complainants. The executive committee is under way to take stock of situation after the party drew a blank in the Assembly elections.

The meeting was presided by the party’s Puducherry unit president V.Saminathan. BJP’s national secretary MaheshGiri was also present.
