The specialists share their expert opinion online to better plan the treatment of cancer patients.

The first Virtual Tumour Board meeting was conducted online in JIPMER under the auspices of the Department of Telemedicine.

Four cases of cancer were discussed online by specialists attached to more than 17 cancer centres such as Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, Mumbai, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi, Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) JIPMER, RCC Thiruvananthapuram, Narayana Cancer Centre and Malabar Cancer Centre.

Dr. Subhash Chandra Parija, Director, JIPMER, pointed out that the facility was an offshoot of the institute’s stature as a Regional Resource Centre (RRC) for Telemedicine activities for South India declared by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in 2013.

The virtual tumour board will help experts around the country to understand the cancer scenario comprehensively across the country.

He commended the initiative of the telemedicine team and cancer specialists from Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) JIPMER which could go a long way in improving cancer management for patients.
