BJP cadre demand closure of liquor shops on highways

Around 100 cadre belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday courted arrest while staging a demonstration in front of the Excise Department offices here to protest against the delay in implementing the Supreme Court order directing the State governments to close down the liquor outlets situated on highways by April 1.

BJP Puducherry unit president V. Saminathan said the government should not renew the licence of liquor shops situated on highways. He urged the government to reduce the working hours of the bars and liquor shops.
