According to a recent survey involving 5,000 people by the Aam Aadmi Party in Puducherry, around 75 per cent wanted statehood.
Once elections are over, the AAP would conduct a thorough survey to understand what people want and whether politicians should put pressure on the Centre for statehood, party convener and Lok Sabha candidate V. Rengarajan said.
The AAP would also be taking a serious look at the sudden increase in population in Yanam. The population of the enclave had grown exponentially in the past 10 years, he said. On the AAP’s operations in Puducherry, he said the main focus would be on door-to-door campaigning. So far, 6,000 volunteers had visited around 15,000 houses. But, the main campaigning would begin only after filing of nominations.
AAP founder Arvind Kejriwal would visit Puducherry next month as part of the campaign, Mr. Rengarajan said.
