66.51% turnout in Thiruvadhigai

Polling remained peaceful amidst tight security; 63.3% votes were polled by 3 p.m.

The repoll in a single booth at Thiruvadhigai coming under the Cuddalore Lok Sabha constituency went off peacefully on Sunday registering 66.51% turnout. The polling at booth number 210 began amidst tight security at 7 a.m. and when it ended at 6 p.m., 191 men and 246 women had cast their votes. The turnout was lower than the figure of 83% recorded on April 18.

A polling official said that about 19% polling was recorded till 9 a.m. The polling was steady with nearly 63.3% of the votes being cast by 3 p.m. By 6 p.m. the polling percentage reached 66.51.

Eighteen candidates, including T.P.R.S. Ramesh of the DMK, R. Govindasamy of the PMK and Kasi Thangavel of AMMK are in the fray.

Repoll was necessitated following a complaint that a button on the EVM, marked against the AMMK candidate Kasi Thangavel, was found missing. All the EVMs in the polling booth were replaced and polling continued. The Election Commission was informed and it ordered repoll in the booth. The booth has 657 voters - 312 men and 345 women.
