The 21st century could belong to India if the nation’s vast human resource strength is channelised towards realising its full potential, Dr. S. Sundaresh, DRDO Distinguished Fellow, Research & Innovation Centre, IIT Madras Research Park, Taramani, said on Friday.

In his address at the 13th Graduation Day of Mailam Engineering College, Dr. Sundaresh pointed out that never in the past have there been so much hope and expectation about the future of India than at present and the road ahead is long but the journey promises to be exciting.

World leader

“It is in your hands with youthful energies and ignited minds, to ensure that our country emerges as the world leader in the 21st century,” he told graduands and students at the institution.

Dr. Sundaresh advised the graduates to be constructive and think in terms of solutions, and not in terms of problems to face up to each challenge not with a “why you can’t” approach but “how you can” attitude and to remember that great opportunities came to those who make the most of small ones.

M. Dhanasekaran, Chairman and Managing Director, presided over the function. S.V. Sugumaran, Vice Chairman, Dr. N. Narayanasamy, Secretary and Dr. S. Senthil, Principal, participated.

The College Management honoured 34 Anna University Rank Holders with Gold medals while 672 graduates (474 UG and 198 PG) were awarded degrees.

Out of 474 undergraduates, 44 are from Civil Engineering, 79 from Computer Science and Engineering, 98 from Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 88 from Electronics and Communication Engineering, 100 from Mechanical Engineering and 65 from Information Technology.

Postgraduates

Out of 198 postgraduates, 15 are from Computer Science and Engineering, 17 from Communication Systems, 12 from Power Electronics and Drives, 8 from Engineering Design, 58 from Master of Computer Applications, and 88 from Master of Business Administration.
