Two children were taken ill allegedly after consuming Complan health drink purchased from a pharmaceutical store at Mandarakuppam in Neyveli on Wednesday. They have been admitted to Cuddalore Government General Hospital and their condition is said to be stable.
The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department immediately swung into action and sent samples of the drink to the King’s Institute of Preventive Medicine in Chennai. It has also asked residents of Cuddalore not to buy the health drink that has the particular lot number.
According to District Food Safety Officer M.P. Raja, Balamurugan, a carpenter of Melapadi village brought the health drink packet from a pharmaceutical store in Neyveli on Tuesday evening. His children Baskar (9) and Babu (8) after consuming it began complaining of nausea and dizziness. They were admitted to Kurinjipadi Government Hospital.
