Education Minister Vinod Tawde on Thursday directed schools and colleges in the State to observe Yoga Day on the 21st of every month by practising yoga for 30 minutes. He said, “June 21 every year is celebrated as International Yoga Day. However, yoga should not remain only an annual affair. It should be observed on the 21st of every month.” Mr. Tawde was addressing education and sports officers across the State via video-conferencing.
Instructions have been given to education officers to make sure the observance on the 21st of every month is planned in advance. In case 21st is a Sunday or a holiday, school managements have been asked to hold the programme a day ahead or later. “But the practice has to be followed,” said Mr. Tawde.
The State government has asked the education department to set up a website to publish photographs of programmes held on Yoga Day. Mr. Tawde said, “The motive of Yoga Day cannot be achieved by celebrating it on a single day. As many students as possible should be made a part of it.”
The plans for organising Yoga Day have to be submitted to the Education Commissioner by June 16.
