Western Railway (WR) has arrested 40 touts, the highest among any zone, and recovered 900 tickets worth ₹16 lakh during a nationwide crackdown on Friday by the Railway Protection Force. In the lead up to Deepavali, WR has conducted about 1,400 raids in its jurisdiction in the last 20 days. As many as 244 touts have been arrested and reserved tickets worth ₹1.06 crore recovered as part of this action.

Drive to continue

“The special drive against touts was started in October and will go on till November 30. An awareness campaign has been launched simultaneously to sensitise passengers to buy tickets from approved sources only — either online, from PRS counters or from authorised rail travel service agents,” Ravinder Bhakar, chief public relations officer, WR, said.

Simultaneous raids were conducted on Friday against e-ticket touting in more than 100 citiesthroughout the Indian Railways.

All zonal railways have been conducting drives since October 7, during which 891 touts have been arrested and tickets worth ₹5.75 crore recovered, as per a directive issued by the Railway Board.
