Navi Mumbai: Police are suspecting a property dispute to be the motive behind the murder of 50-year-old Kiran Temba Sherpa, whose body was found in a drain in Vashi village, near the Sion-Panvel highway.

The main suspects in the case are two youngsters, one of them Ms. Sherpa’s adopted son. Both are absconding. Their last recorded locations as per their mobile phones were in two places in south India, police said. Two police teams have been sent to these locations to apprehend them.

An officer at Vashi police station said, “The victim didn’t agree to her adopted son’s demand regarding their home in Turbhe Store. As of now, we suspect they had argued over this matter, during the course of which he might have strangled her.”

An autorickshaw driver who had taken the boys and the trunk containing Ms. Sherpa’s body to Vashi has approached Vashi police station. The officer said, “The auto driver seems to be uninvolved. He said the boys had hired his auto to dump the trunk, and that he had not known about its contents. He is our prime witness in the case.”

The case is being investigated by Vashi and Turbhe MIDC police stations, as Ms. Sherpa had been murdered in her Turbhe Store residence.
