A 54-year-old woman was detained after she allegedly tried to kill herself outside Mantralaya on Friday.

According to the police, Sharda Kamble, a resident of Vashi Naka in Chembur, tried to take the extreme step around 3 p.m. Police personnel posted at Mantralaya restrained her and handed her over to the Marine Drive police.

“Ms. Kamble had taken a loan from a private moneylender and had given him post-dated cheques to repay him. When the cheques bounced, he started asking her for the money. She had been disturbed due to her inability to repay him,” a police officer said. The officer said Ms. Kamble was released after being counselled and no case was registered.
