Mumbai: A former MLA from Vasai, Vivek Pandit, and 18 members of Shramjivi Sangathana, an NGO working with malnourished children in Palghar, were arrested after they surrendered before the Palghar police on Thursday, following an FIR filed by district CEO Nidhi Choudhury claimed the NGO’s members “misbehaved” with her and “pushed” her around.
Members of the NGO, including Mr. Pandit, had met Ms. Choudhury on Monday to request her to look into their grievances
Ms. Choudhury said, “They were forcing me to give a commitment as to when I would address their grievances. Even though I explained them that most of the issues were decided at government-level and my role was just that of implementation, they were not ready to accept.”
However, Mr. Pandit said, “We questioned her as a civil servant, and she turned it into an attack on a woman. There are problems in the implementation of the schemes for malnourished children in Palghar. We are not going to ask for bail. We would rather go to jail.”
