TISS students step up protest against fee hike

The students of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) have launched a postcard campaign in protest against a mid-semester fee hike and slashing of seats.

TISS Students’ Union leader Abid Faheem said the campaign was aimed at objecting to the reduction of funding and seats not only in their institute but also in other universities. Under the campaign, postcards are being sent to the Ministry of Human Resource Development and HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar by over 300 students of TISS and others from Mumbai University, Delhi University and TISS Hyderabad. TISS had recently announced the termination of contracts of faculty members from the Departments of Inclusive Policy, Human Rights and Women’s Studies, citing “the absence of information that renews the funding for these centres.”

Mr. Faheem said, “This is being done to cut down the voices of dissent against the injustices in our country which comes from universities.”
